This scale is signed by the maker, however the exact working period of whom is yet to be found. It is dated to the last two decades of the 19th century mainly because, according to Scientific Instruments, 1500-1900: An Introduction by Gerard L'E Turner, p. 116, the postal rates stamped on the right platform were in use from 1871 to 1897.
