This beam compass set was made in 1918 by the Houghton-Butcher Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a camera manufacturing and trading company. A serial number of 1448 is stamped on all the brass parts. The beam is made of solid mahogany with inlayed boxwood scale. The left beam head is fixed at the end but equipped with a micro adjustment screw. The right head can be freely slide along the beam and clamped at any desired position, it also has a vernier scale and fine adjustment screw. The maximum radius of the circle that this compass can draw is 26 inches. The case is made of pine.
